Willie E. "Jack" Hargrove was born to the late Elmer Hargrove and Maybelle Allen Hargrove in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on February 2, 1924. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Hurricane Baptist Church under the leadership of the late C.H. Robinson.
He was educated in the Tuscaloosa County Public School System and attended Stillman College until he entered the armed forces in 1943 where he was honorably discharged in 1945. He also enlisted in the US Navy and was discharged in 1948. Shortly after his discharge he became the proud father of three daughters, Jacqueline, Blanche and Gerald. In 1955 he relocated to Portland, Oregon where he worked at Rich Manufacturing Foundry and the Portland shipyards on Swan Island.
In 1962 he was joined in holy matrimony to Annie M. West the love of his life. They shared many years of devotion to each other and family. His favorite pastime including gardening, watching sports, walking, traveling, shopping and spending time and giving advice to his family.
Upon relocation to Oregon he attended Vancouver Avenue 1st Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. O. B. Williams. He also attended St. Mark Baptist church under the leadership of the late Rev. E. C. Wilder, and most recently he visited often at Daniels Memorial until his health prevented him from doing so.
Willie (Jack) is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Annie, his children Jacqueline Lewis, Blanche Bolden (John) and Gerald Parrish. Sister, Mary Bowles, Brother-in-Law, James West (Barbara), Sister-in-Law, Ethel Curry. He was also Grandpa Jack to Tiffany, Tanisha and Tandrea Lewis and Brian and Marcus Bolden. His Great Grandchildren are Ashley, Namah (Abby), Alina and Nasir. He also leaves a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Leon Hargrove and his sister Ruth Bowles.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 10, 2010 at Daniels Memorial COGIC, 1234 NE Killingsworth St. Portland, Oregon 97211. Viewing will be from 10 – 5 Wednesday and Thursday at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 NE Fremont St. Portland, Oregon 97213. Interment will be in the Willamette National Cemetery, with military honors being performed on Friday, Dec. 10 at 1:30 pm.
