Yared Haile Gebregzi w as born to his father Hailemariam Gebregzi & his mother Ms. Manasebesh Weldemariam on September 12, 1989 in Boston, Massachusetts. At an early age, he and his mother moved to Portland from Boston where he attended Davis Elementary School and then later, Reynolds High School. In every grade he attended he was recognized by his teachers for his academic achievements and exceptional hard work. He was awarded the Presidents Educational Award for Academic Excellence.
Yared graduated from Portland Christian High School with honors at age 7 in 2007. That fall he was accepted to the prestigious institution of the College of William & St. Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was awarded a scholarship to study linguistics. In 2011 he graduated with a degree in Linguistics.
Yared was a quiet and brilliant, he loved reading and music. He was a voracious reader and a good guitar player. He was fascinated with different languages, especially Japan and took classes in Japanese during his high school years and spoke it fluently. In 2012 he moved to Japan, where he lived until his untimely death.
Yared was a very brilliant and promising young man and will be missed by everyone who knew him, especially his mother, relatives and close friends.
